Parenting Classes –
Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) can help assure that parents learn to effectively understand children’s behavior, improve communication, and set limits along with consequences.
The 8 session program has provided service to Probation and DCFS referred clients as well as those who are self-referred. It’s easy to comprehend, effective, and research-based.
Classes are:
Tuesdays 8-9pm or
Fridays 9-10am
A Certification of Completion is given upon completion of class and weekly assignments.
Parents can start at any time, but a pre-class consultation is required for pre-class assessment for goal-setting. Call for more information.
National Depression Screening Day:
WAYS participates in Screening Day, the 1st Thursday in October from 10am to 9pm. No appointment is necessary, but call ahead to arrange a time in advance to avoid any wait. No fee for assessment.
National Alcohol Screening Day:
WAYS particpates in National Alcohol Screening Day, the 1st Thursday in April from 10am to 9pm. No appointment is necessary, but call ahead to arrange a time in advance to avoid any wait. No fee for assessment.
NEW: Stress Management Class WAYS uses a research-based curriculum with adults struggling with stress in different areas of their lives. They will learn how to identify levels of stress, the effect it has on daily functioning, easy ways to reduce stress, and prevent future stress. This class will consist of a 15-session series. These continuously revolving classes meet Wednesday, 8-9pm. An individual consultation with the facilitator is required before the first class. Cost is $15 per session.
Adult Anger Management:
WAYS uses a research-based curriculum with adults having difficulty managing their anger appropriately; they learn the components of anger, relaxation techniques and coping skills.
This ten-session series includes a Certificate of Completion and has provided service to Probation and DCFS referred clients as well as those who are self-referred. These continuously revolving classes meet Thursdays, 8-9pm.
An individual consultation with the facilitator is required before the first class. Call for more information.
Teen Anger Management Classes:
This 10 session series will teach teens relaxation techniques as well as coping skills to manage anger in more productive ways. Teens who are on probation and suspension from school as well as those who are self-referred have benefited from these classes.
A Certificate of Completion is given upon successfully completing the classes and the assignments. Classes are Tuesdays 7-8pm.
The series rotates so new members are welcome to join at any time, but a pre-class consultation with teen and parent is required before classes. A post-class consultation, at no cost to clients, is provided for parents to provide suggestions toward on-going improvement. Call for more information.
